Kobe earthquake, 1995
I went to Kobe 40 days after the earthquake of January 1995,
which hit the centre of this beautiful Japanese city. It was hard to get there,
even harder to be there. I was supposed to have been there at the time of the disaster,
but something got in the way and my trip was delayed…
You had to wear a mask to protect yourself from Asbestos (still high concentrations in the air)
On many houses, the first floor was completely collapsed.
The second floor was now on the ground.
High-risers supported each other from falling over.
