Example 1. The HTML mode desktop

The Alpha HTML mode desktop is uncluttered and the commands you use most are close at hand. (Recent versions of Alpha feature tear-away menus that become floating palettes.)

Alpha provides lots of options for arranging, zooming, splitting, and iconifying windows. Window and cursor positions can be saved when you close a file. Fonts, tabs, and syntax-driven text colouring are all configurable.

We like the default text colours in BBEdit, so that's how we've set up HTML mode (Fig.1). We also like Traci Ingram's compact and legible LetterGothic EGG-Ø font, which you can download from Info-Mac.
