A SELECTION OF PRISONER BOOKS

The Prisoner: The Official Companion to the Classic TV Series by Robert Fairclough. US edition including DVD. The Prisoner Handbook: Authorized by Six of One by Steven Paul Davies and Alex Cox.
The Official Prisoner Companion
by Matthew White and Jaffer Ali
Warner, 1988
ISBN 0-4463-8744-4

A Warner book, paperback, 6" x 9", with a total of 244 pages with useful information on the TV series. This book is an impressive one; lot of b/w photos, script exerpts, indices, in-depth discussion. A must.
The Prisoner, a televisionary masterpiece
by Alain Carrazé and Hélenè Oswald
Barnes and Noble, NY, 1995
ISBN 1-56619-819-4

Could this be the definite book on The Prisoner? Large format and splendid illustrations, many in full color. A thorough description of the series, packed with facts and thoughtful insights. Foreword by Isaac Asimov.
The Prisoner
by Dave Rogers
Barnes and Noble, NY, 1993
ISBN 1-56619-163-7

Rogers has written a number of books dealing with popular TV series and films. A nice book in large format, but not quite as outstanding as the one above.
Be Seeing You: Decoding The Prisoner
by Chris Gregory
University of Luton Press, 1997
ISBN 1-86020-521-6

The first academic book on the subject of The Prisoner. Got some bad press by 601 due to some factual slips. Otherwise an interesting book for many reasons. Do not expect too much decoding, though.
Inside The Prisoner
by Ian Rakoff
Batsford, London, 1998
ISBN 0-7134-8413-6

Excellent book from one of the series crew members back in the 60'ies. Does not only discuss TP but also other phenomena from that time period. Recommended.
Clough Williams-Ellis, The Architect of Portmeirion
A memoir by Jonah Jones
Seren, Poetry Wales Press, 1996
ISBN 1-85411-214-7

The story of the man behind Portmeirion -- the extraordinary place where The Prisoner was filmed. TP and McGoohan only mentioned briefly in this otherwise original and interesting book.
The Gillis Guide to The Prisoner
by S J Gillis
SJG Communications Services Ltd, Shrewsbury, 1997
ISBN 0-9528441-1-7

Large format. No pictures. Not much text either, mostly tables and lots of facts. Feels a bit too fanish, maybe.
Le Prisoner, chef-d'oevre télévisionnaire
by Alain Carrazé and Hélène Oswald
Huitieme Art, France, 1989

The original in French of the TP book by Carrazé and Oswald. Different dustjacket picture, otherwise the same as above.
The Prisoner of Portmeirion
by Max Hora
Number Six Publ., rev.ed., 1989

One of several booklets by Hora on The Prisoner. Excellent as usual, with many interesting color illustrations from Portmeirion. Hora, as you probably know, ran the Prisoner Shop for many year at Portmeirion. Wish I had all his booklets.
The Prisoner
by Thomas M. Disch
NEL, London, 1980

The first in a series of novels sequelling the series. Probably the best. Disch didn't write the two others.
