Patrick McGoohan

Well Come...
to this fan site!

It is dedicated to the cult TV series of the sixties, The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan.

In 17 episodes we followed the former secret agent who, after resigning, found himself in strange circumstances. Abducted to the mysterious Village, run by one side or the other, the Prisoner struggled to gain his freedom. This struggle became also a quest for finding out the true identity of Number One, the mysterious boss of the Village.

A time document, an allegory over society or just an extraordinary and somethimes quite surrealistic adventure, the Prisoner could be all of these and more. Debate and interest over the series has not diminished over the years.

Today, more than 35 years after the first TV broadcast of the series, The Prisoner has fans all over the world, one or two devoted Societies, a number of books, magazines, documentaries and also an ever-growing number of dedicated webpages. This page is a small depository for Prisoner facts, items, texts, sounds, pics and links to other fan sites.

The Prisoner: The Original Scripts Volume 2
The eagerly awaited second and final volume (isbn 1-903111-81-1) with the original Prisoner scripts from British book publisher Reynolds & Hearn will by out in march 2006. Expertly edited by Robert Fairclough, this is an indispensable item for any serious Prisoner fan. Apart from the full texts of the remaining episodes, this concluding volume also features revealing annotations and previously unseen material, including the script for the unproduced episode Don't Get Yourself Killed as well as the pilot script for a planned McGoohan follow-up to The Prisoner, working title The Outsider. With a total of 488 pages, This nicely bound volume is a pride for any book shelf. Don't miss it!

Prisoner remake?
Word has it that there will be a 2006 remake of the TV series by Granada, in eight parts, aired on Sky One. Producer and writer are Damien Timmer and Bill Gallagher, respectively. It is said that the new series will feature paranoia, conspiracy and identity crisis. However, the location will not be the same, and the new series is said to take liberties with the original. Some fans will certainly be appalled by this news, which at first sight doesn't sound as promising as the previously rumoured movie involving McGoohan. Time will tell.

The Prisoner: The Original Scripts, vol. 1
Be sure not to miss the first of two volumes containing the complete scripts of The Prisoner. Volume one contains episodes 1-8, edited and annotated by Robert Fairclough, as well as the script for the unproduced episode "The Outsider". Comes with a preface by Lewis Greifer, and a short bio on George Markstein, the series script editor. Many pictures. On the whole a very satisfying book. Published by Reynolds and Hearn Ltd, London, 2005, ISBN 1903111765. We certainly look forward to the second volume.

The Prisoner Movie News
Rumour has long talked about the production of a full length Prisoner movie. Now, more substantial details begin to appear:
The Guardian, Prisoner movie story
Further, Corona Production, specializing in movie news, reports:
Corona Production, CA, forthcoming Prisoner movie
Further, more detailed information was recently given by the site Upcomingmovies.com:
Upcomingmovies, The Prisoner from Universal Studios.
British director Simon West (Lara Croft) is reported making the film, with Patrick McGoohan as executive producer (possibly also starring in the film, at least in a cameo role). This suggests a big budget, action/FX oriented film, but with McGoohan as a guarantee for being true to the original. Something to look forward too, then, in 2003!
New McGoohan interview release on CD
