Towns and Villages of the East Wilds
Cliffhang
In Cliffhang rope, pottery and cloth is manufactured by many of the 400
inhabitants. The cloth is made from flax or wool and mainly sold to other
Delamani clans, though some finds its way to Istakax, where there is a shortage
of cloth. Cliffhang fabrics are always coloured with vegetable dye, often in
shades of red.
The village has about 50 houses, tightly packed up the steep slope towards the
Doskior river. Most houses are made from bricks of fired clay. The river bank
is lined with pottery shards.
Dragonflake
More than 600 people live off the fields of loamy soil that surround
Dragonflake. The earth is very fertile, few of the Vistal clan find it possible
to herd sheep on it. Thane Martix Alebelly is one of Aruzban Ironarm's most
loyal subjects. The name of the village derives from a giant dragon's scale
that fell to the ground here in the Godtime; it has long since withered away.
There are several ale-houses and a number of breweries in the village.
Eat here
During the days of the Dark Empire a large troll inn was located here; its
kitchen was known for culinary peculiarities (peculiar even for trolls). Today
this is the clan centre of the Rashorm, an unusually cocky clan that claims to
still carry the bloodline of Retter. Whether this includes his opportunistic
streak, they don't say, but their clan is known for switching sides at the
first hint of adversity.
Only 200 or so live in the village itself, but several smaller villages in the
vicinity make this an area of high population density.
Highridge
The Nivion tribe's largest village, with more than 500 residents. It is located
between two rivers and above sheer precipices. As in the rest of Nivion,
Orlanth takes second place to Ernalda and the daughters of Pastoma, despite
Surdaga Fiveoaths' presence (her grand hall is placed in the centre of the
village).
Racoon city
Despite its name, this is a fairly normal village of 300 souls. The name's
origin is unknown; there are no racoons anywhere near here. Most visitors find
it a boring place: the fog from the Restrom bog and the unpainted houses make a
dreary impression. The bog is rumoured to have many unpleasant residents, and
some intrepid explorers have disappeared without a trace. Whether this is a
result of foul play or lack of care for the treacherous footing is unknown.
Redcreek
At the close of the 1400:s the cartwrights of Redcreek enjoyed unusual
prosperity when one of the Safelster kings took it into his head to equip his
army with chariots. It is still a thriving village with 600 inhabitants, aside
from the cartwrights there are many wheelwrights, tanners and harness-makers in
residence. The reason for the Redcreek chariots' success is that the wheels are
made with spokes from a very hard variety of tree. Trees growing near Redcreek
seem to gain added strength from the red soil.
Spot
Almost all of Fearface Fredrik's clan lives in Spot, and there's about 500 of
them. There are many skilled bowyers in this clan; they make their bows from a
relative of the yew that as far as anyone knows only grows in the southern
Goldlook forest. Spot is scattered over several acres of land, but still has
the rudiments of fortification - an earthen wall with wood poles stuck in it.
Tegebe
A very seasonal village. In the winter only 100 people live here, but in the
summer several clans move into the area to fish and Tegebe can swell to as many
as 1000 inhabitants. The rights to the waters are held by the Erero clan, and
all others must pay them a tax on the fish brought up. Much trade is attracted
to Tegebe during the summer, making it possible to find exotic wares and
services here that are otherwise only available in Kilwin.
