Western Australia

Part 2

March 2005

Tillbaka Tillbaka till Personligt

Time to go outside the city and explore the west coast.
A four days bus trip together with a very diverse group of people - Japanesee students,
a French lawyer, a Swiss family, a Polish-German couple, a crazy Swede... And our guide Mark of course!.

The Pinnacles Dessert, Nambung NP

First stop - The Pinnacles.
A somewhat eerie feeling among the limestone pillars, even if it was bright daylight.

Kalbarri NP

After a night at the hostel in Kalbarri did we heed for the national park. Running along the Murchison River, the park covers over 1000 km2 of bushland and gorges.

Devil

First stop - photo session in the middle of the dirt road.
A thorny devil!

Shark Bay World Heritage Area

Hamelin Pool

Stromatolites!
The origin of life on Earth. These "living rocks" in a tidal pool might not lok very impressive but they are more or less identical to organisms evolving 1900 million years ago.

In comparison the ones here at Hamelin Pool are young - only about 3000 years.

Eagles Bluff

Eagle Bluff. Some of the shadows were actually sharks, so the area could live up to its name.

Shell BeachShell Beach

Shell Beach

Cockleshells - up to 10 m deep. Almost blinding white in the sharp sunshine. And crystal clear, lukewarm water.
Could have stayed here a bit longer...
