For many, many, many years ago I decided to build a....
EFFECT RACK UNIT
And I did.....
From the beginning it was obvious that a commercial rack-unit
was to expensive and limited in space also.
So I went to a sheet-metal workshop and i asked them to make this box for me.
It's easy when you have the machinery doing most of the work!
As you can see I have plenty of room to play with!
I had at this point a fair idea what I wanted to put in there.
You have to consider these items:
- Number of effects
- Drilling measurements
- Apperance(not your's!)
- Connectors(between pcb's and...)
- Size of the pcb's
- Wiring
- Quality aspects(components etc.)
- Input/output configuration
- Bypass/remote option
- Beer consumtion....burpp..not to many!
Yes, here are the effects that I've choosen!
- Octave/Modulator-with ext.input
- Bi-Phaser-(two Phaser's tuned differently)
- Compressor-(I've changed to Carlin)
- Rocky Head Distorsion
- VCF-(voltage controled frequency)
- Tremolo
- Gate-(DOD)
- 5 band Equalizer-(100,500,1k,4k,10khz and volume)
- Pre-amp/Fuzz
- MXR-Flanger
- 4 channel stereo Mixer-(with pan,gain, and volume)
To be able using these goodies with maximum flexibility
I've decided to have one Input
and three Outputs per effect
so I can patch them together freely.
To move the Thing around I've mounted it on a tv-stand.
It got really flexible!...four wheels and they are all mine!
Here is a picture of that ugly thing!
More pic's?

From left to the right the above effect-list follows until MXR flanger(bottom left )and the mixer.
Far bottom right shows the input for the wha-pedal and Preamp/Fuzz foot switch
BYPASS
From the very start i've used the digital/analog CD4016 as bypass-switches.
That was a big mistake because of their poor sonic performance!
Instead i've used relay's.
The Rack schematic's can be found here!
