John Hagelin

John Hagelin, Ph.D., is a world authority in the area of unified quantum field theories. He has helped revolutionize our understanding of the universe through his ground-breaking work as a pioneering unified field physicist and relativistic cosmologist—both at the smallest scales of sub-elementary particles, and on the vastest conceivable cosmological scales.

He is the developer of the world's most successful Grand Unified Field Theory, which unites the various fundamental particle forces - the electromagnetic, nuclear and radioactive forces - into a single, universal "superforce" governing all forms and phenomena in the universe. This cosmic convergence of forces takes place at infinitesimal distances: 10-33 centimeters, or 10 million million million times smaller than the atomic nucleus!

Dr. Hagelin's proposed unification of forces is not only uniquely elegant, but explains hitherto mysterious features of our universe (such as the electron's and proton's equal and opposite charge). Discover magazine predicted that the experimental confirmation of this theory ((in deep underground proton decay experiments)) could result in the Nobel prize for Dr. Hagelin and his scientific collaborators .

Dr. Hagelin's pioneering contributions to our understanding of the universe extends from the infinitesimal to the cosmological, from the sub-atomic world of quarks and leptons to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. His ground-breaking paper "Supersymmetric Relics of the Big Bang", explains the likely origin and nature of the mysterious "dark matter" that binds galaxies and fills the universe. It sparked a astrophysical firestorm, and is one of the most widely cited articles in the physical sciences. (Current Contents 77, p.34 (1995))

But Dr. Hagelin is unique among scientists in his efforts to apply the most advanced scientific understanding of the universe to improve the life of society. As Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy, a progressive policy think tank, Dr. Hagelin has successfully headed a nationwide effort to identify, scientifically verify and promote cost-effective solutions to critical social problems in the fields of crime, health care, education, economy, biotechnology, energy and the environment.

He has spent much of the past quarter century leading a scientific investigation into the foundations of human consciousness. In his book, Manual for a Perfect Government, Dr. Hagelin shows how, through educational programs that develop human consciousness, and through policies and programs that effectively harness the laws of nature, it is possible to solve acute social problems and enhance governmental effectiveness.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Dr. Hagelin was named winner of the prestigious Kilby Award, which recognizes scientists who have made “major contributions to society through their applied research in the fields of science and technology.” The award recognized Dr. Hagelin as “a scientist in the tradition of Einstein, Jeans, Bohr and Eddington.” Other Kilby Award winners include Vinton Cerf (“Father of the Internet”), Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple Computer, Inc.), and Tim Berners-Lee (created the World Wide Web).
