Five young people (Kirk, Pam, Franklin, Jerry and Sally) are travelling through Texas at their vacation and takes up a hitch-hiker, but throughs him out after a while when his behavour starts to get really weird. After a while they run out of gas. Unfortunately the gas station that they stop by is out of gas for a couple of days. Meanwhile they went to an old desert house nearby owned by Franklin's father. When Jerry and Pam are going to search the area they find a house which seems to be inhabit. They went in to ask for some gas but is met by a really weird sight. Their are bones and skulls everywhere and suddenly a huge man with a leathermask and a chain saw (Leatherface) runs out and kills them.

The other three started two get worried after a while and Kirk goes looking for them and even he founds the house and gets killed. Even more worried now and the dark falls in Sally and her crippled brother Fraanklin start to look for them their self and after a while Leatherface came up from the bushes and kills even Franklin. Sally runs away from the place and comes back to the gas station where she think’s she’s safe…But the station is owned by a family which leatherface and the hitch-hiker is a part of and Sally is taken back to the house where her friends was killed and placed at the end of the dinner table with the whole family screaming and shouting around her. It’s grandpa’s turn to kill this time but he’s to weak to hold the hammer and drops it every time.

Sally gets loose and jump out of the window and run out to the main road with Leatherface and his brother's after her. A big truck came up and almost pick her up but Leatherface catch up to them and they had to run away. Sally jumps up at the back of a Pick-Up which was passing by and went away. Leatherface swings his chain saw in anger...
